Everyone needs a cooldown in August whether you have 2 legs or 4. Find a local river or lake in Cary and Apex or venture a little further to Morrisville and enjoy some relief from the heat with a relaxing swim. Before putting on your swimsuit and packing your towels though, here are some tips to ensure you, your dog, and other visitors have a safe visit to the beach:
- Doggy life jacket: Life jackets are especially important if you are not confident about your dogs swimming ability, or you’re not able to keep a close eye on them while they’re in the water. Make sure you get a dog-specific life jacket that fits your dog properly.
- Follow the rules: Many beaches have areas specific for dogs. Make beach-day pleasant for everybody by knowing where your dog is allowed to swim and roam off leash.
- Choose safe locations: Opt for calm waters, avoiding areas with strong currents, undertows, or choppy waves.
Swimming is a fantastic way for you and your dog to get exercise, be outdoors, and escape the August heat. Just make sure your conscious of everyone’s safety in the process. And on your way home, you’ll have the lovely smell of wet dog to remind you of how much fun you had.
